“No way, Theresa May! Let the people have their say!” – JEF Europe takes the streets in London to support a People’s Vote
More than one million Europeans marched this Saturday in London calling on the British Government to put to the people of the UK whether to remain in the EU now that the alternatives are clear or whether to leave. JEF Europe held its bi-annual Federal Committee in London during the same weekend: on the back of its recently approved resolution supporting a People’s Vote, JEFers joined locals to protest against Brexit, adding a federalist touch to the ocean of Union Jacks and yellow-starred flags.
The British public could be heard screaming louder and louder on its way to Westminster: “No way Theresa May, let the people have their say”. Citizen’s frustration with the current state of the Brexit affair – and the chaos it creates – must be answered for. JEF Europe has continuously underlined that Brexit was a losing game from the start and that no possible agreement could ever put British citizens better off. Full membership of the European Union remains the best option available.
Christopher Glück, President of JEF Europe, states: “Fromage, not Farage: it may sound cheesy, but we just want to stay together! Brexit has always been an ill-conceived and harmful idea, sold to the public in a campaign built on false promises, outright lies and disinformation, fueling discontent that had little to do with the European Union. Now it is high time to end this madness. More than a million people were marching on Saturday and 5 million citizens have by now signed a petition to revoke article 50, following the continuous inability of the British government to deliver any workable solutions. It is high time to give citizens a final say at a new referendum!”
