Call for a Member of the Board of Generation Climate Europe
As you might know, JEF Europe is an active member of Generation Climate Europe (GCE). As a Member Organisation, JEF Europe has the right to nominate a candidate for the Board in the upcoming mandate 2025/2026. We thus hope you will nominate yourself before Sunday May 18th at 14:00 CEST.
About Generation Climate Europe
GCE is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE’s mission is to create a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe.
GCE aims to:
- Facilitate internal coordination and collaboration between its Member Organisations;
- Empower young people to meaningfully engage in EU decision-making processes on climate, environmental and sustainability issues;
- Advocate for stronger action on environment and climate by and in the European Union that proactively and regularly includes the voices of young people.
GCE works on a number of key environmental issues, including biodiversity, circular economy, clean mobility, energy and climate justice, education and skills. Moreover, it focuses on important horizontal issues such as new economy, intergenerational justice and youth engagement. It works with a variety of civil society and institutional partners, and creates a space for young people and youth organisations to engage with the EU institutions and in COP processes.
What does it mean to be a Member of the Board of GCE?
As a Board Member, you would oversee the decision-making processes of the organisation, as well as represent it externally and work to advance its mission statement.
Responsibilities:
- Support the coordination of the development and implementation of GCE’s annual Work Plan;
- Ensure that the structures and processes within the organisation are kept under review and remain fit for purpose, especially in the light of organisational development;
- Oversee and advise on GCE’s financial and administrative capacity,
- Vote and make decisions on key organisational matters, including internal processes, funding, administration, legal responsibilities and partnerships;
- Keep up to date with policy developments and external opportunities that affect the coalition;
- Advise on the strategic inputs and impact of the coalition on the EU climate and environmental agenda;
- Support the process of membership engagement;
- Ensure that the coalition is appropriately represented at external events and meetings;
- Ensure strategic leadership over your given portfolio (operations/membership/partnerships/advocacy/community empowerment & events/presidency).
Who can run?
- a board member represents GCE,
- is nominated by a member organization and voted upon at the General Assembly on May 31st 2025,
- is a legal representative of GCE,
- should not come from the highest-level and/or decision-making body of the MO, not to overlap with the role of the Member Organisation Representative. (EB/FC)
What is expected?
- Availability to dedicate at least 4-6 hours per week to the Board work (note that this amount depends on the month and the workload);
- Interest and basic knowledge in the financial, administrative and legal matters;
- Understanding of EU policy and decision-making processes;
- Interest in learning about organisational and strategic development of non-profit organisations;
- Interest and basic knowledge of the field of climate change and environmental protection are an advantage.
