Call for JEF Europe’s Membership Officer | Deadline 15/1/2024

The Young European Federalists (JEF Europe) are recruiting a Membership Officer for the European Secretariat of the organisation, in Brussels.

Main tasks:

  • Liaising with JEF sections and members and supporting them in their activities, in capacity-building and forwarding opportunities, together with the Executive Board;
  • Running and supporting various micro-granting processes of JEF Europe to its sections across Europe;
  • Coordinating the organisation of JEF Europe’s statutory events (Congresses, Federal Committees);
  • Contribution to JEF Europe’s campaigns, activities and programmes, e.g. Democracy under Pressure, Federalist Academy, European elections 2024 campaign;
  • Co-writing operating grant applications and project applications to provide a perspective on membership needs;
  • Coordinating projects of JEF Europe, especially those linking closely with working together with our members;
  • Supporting the Task Force Capacity-Building in providing resources and toolkits to the sections, as well as other Task Forces of JEF Europe where relevant;
  • Supporting the Secretary General and other colleagues with managing the Pool of Trainers of JEF Europe;
  • Drafting and disseminating the JEF Membership Survey, and supporting the Secretary General and the Executive Board in its analysis;
  • Keeping internal membership documents and membership database updated, as well as public overviews of the JEF network (e.g. map of all local sections, website).

Essential qualifications and qualities:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree is an asset but can be compensated with relevant working experience adequate for the position;
  • Excellent command of English (C1);
  • Being passionate about membership-based youth organisations and their development;
  • Experience with capacity-building activities and non-formal education as a methodology
  • Experience with handling budgets and projects – experience with running micro-granting schemes is a strong asset;
  • Strong knowledge of JEF, its network, values, structure, mission, activities – being a member of JEF is a strong asset;
  • Relational comfort, approachable and sense of initiative;
  • Problem-solving and fast learner, with strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Team player and comfortable in an international environment;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), collaborative tools (G Suite, Slack) and videoconferencing tools (Zoom, Google Meet)

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of another European language;
  • Previous experience in membership-based and/or youth organisations (volunteer experience included);
  • Previous experience with membership databases handling. 
  • Previous relevant experience in membership management, project management and/or event organisation.

Contract conditions and remuneration:

  • 12-month fixed-term contract under Belgian law, with the possibility of extension to a permanent contract;
  • Full-time, 38 hours/week;
  • Monthly gross salary: 1955 EUR with additional benefits (50€ for public transportation, 100€ of frais forfaitaires, private health insurance, food vouchers) – depending on personal background for taxation, approximately 2100-2120 EUR net remuneration per month + holiday pay and 13th month
  • Work during weekends and/or evenings several times a year, with time off in lieu as compensation. The position requires travel in Europe several times during the year, and all travel-related expenses will be covered or reimbursed by JEF Europe.
