Call for JEF Europe Communication and Policy Assistant

JEF Europe – Young European Federalists is recruiting a Communication and Policy Assistant Assistant  for the European Secretariat of the organisation in Brussels.   You will be working with the Communications and Policy Officers on external communication, research and supporting the work behind our campaigns and advocacy work.

Below you will find the main tasks and essential qualifications and qualities. We still encourage you to apply even if you do not ‘tick’ every box. Please know you will receive training and support once you arrive, so you are able to adequately handle your work.

You will also have an opportunity to learn about the policy work of a youth-led, volunteer-based political NGO and the role of a communication strategy to enable our advocacy efforts.

Main tasks:
  • Support the work of the Communications and Policy Officers of JEF Europe
  • Support the creation of external communication: social media and newsletters of JEF Europe, as well as support the drafting of press statements and press releases 
  • Support the analysis of social media channels and the creation of a communication strategy.
  • Carry out policy research based on the policy priorities of the organisation that is used for our advocacy work
  • Monitor policy developments and social media trends that might be relevant for our external communication assist in crafting communication plans and in creating new content for events and campaigns, with a focus on: EurHope campaign for the EU elections, Democracy Under Pressure, Europe – What If…?
  • Support the team of JEF Europe in managing events
Essential qualifications and qualities:
    • Bachelor degree is an asset;
    • Excellent command of English (C1);
    • Basic knowledge of EU institutions and processes;
    • Interest in European topics relevant to JEF; 
  • An activist mindset and strong commitment to social change and the values and vision of JEF Europe;
  • Being passionate about membership-based youth organisations and volunteering;
  • Relational comfort, approachable and sense of initiative;
  • Proactive and problem-solving mindset, with strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn into new things quickly on the job;
  • Team player and comfortable in an international environment;
  • Organised and precise approach to work;
  • Good knowledge of graphic design tools (Canva, if possible, Photoshop), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), collaborative tools (G Suite, Slack) and videoconferencing tools (Zoom, Google Meet).
Contract conditions and remuneration:
  • 6 month CIP contract under Belgian law;
  • Full-time, 38 hours/week;
  • Monthly salary: €1350 plus additional benefits (€50 for public transportation, food vouchers – 8 EUR per working day) 
  • Work during weekends and/or evenings several times a year, with time off in lieu as compensation. The position requires travel in Europe several times during the year, and all travel-related expenses will be covered or reimbursed by JEF Europe.
