New JEF Europe leadership: A boost for a federal Europe as the network expands to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia

The Young European Federalists (JEF Europe) are excited to announce the election of a new Executive Board, Directly Elected Federal Committee members, and other statutory bodies at the XXVIII European Congress held in Strasbourg, France. The new team will steer the organisation for the 2025-2027 mandate bringing renewed energy and determination to champion a more democratic and united federal Europe.

The network elected Moritz Hergl as its new President, alongside Vice-Presidents Debora Striani and Nea-Maria Törmänen and Treasurer Anna van de Moosdijk. The Executive Board is completed by Konstantine Gagnidze, Dvir Aviam Ezra, Achilles Tsirgis and Sara Rocchetto. The Federal Committee elected Nea-Bettina Baarman, Valentin Petri and Nikos Chircop as its Presidium.

“Our role as federalists is not to defend the status quo, but to demand more democracy for all and give those a voice that cannot speak up themselves”, says Moritz Hergl, newly-elected President of JEF Europe.

The newly elected Executive Board and Federal Committee represent the diversity and dynamism of young Europeans, committed to tackling the major challenges of our time — from fighting nationalism and empowering youth to strengthening European solidarity and global federalism.

“On behalf of all JEFers, I welcome the activists of JEF Ukraine, JEF Moldova and JEF Georgia officially to our movement”, says Moritz Hergl.

In a historic step, JEF Europe proudly welcomes three new full sections: JEF Ukraine, JEF Moldova and JEF Georgia, expanding the movement and reaffirming its belief that Europe’s future must be open, inclusive, and federal. This also means that JEF now has more than 10.000 active members.

Founded in 1949, JEF Europe is a pan-European youth NGO advocating for a federal, democratic, and united Europe built on freedom, solidarity, and the rule of law. From high-level political advocacy to creative grassroots campaigns, JEF gives young Europeans the tools to make their voices heard and to take action for a stronger European democracy.

Street action to celebrate 75 years of federal youth activism in Europe

On Saturday in a human key chain spanning from the European Parliament to the Court of Human Rights, participants of the Congress remembered the engagement of young federalists 75 years ago, when on November 25th 1950 thousands came together in Strasbourg and demanded a truly united and democratic Europe – a task which is still to be fulfilled.

By growing its network and empowering young voices from Kyiv and Tbilisi to Frankfurt and Rome, from Helsinki to Chișinău, JEF Europe continues to prove that young people are not just watching Europe’s future unfold. We are building it.
