Call for trainers:International Capacity Building seminar on Media literacyand freedom of expression

The Young European Federalists (JEF Europe) is looking for one junior and one senior trainer to facilitate a 2-day in person Capacity Building seminar for young volunteers in journalism on Media literacy and freedom of speech, supported by the European Union.

About the International Capacity Building seminar

Based on the collaboration between JEF Europe and the different language editions of The New Federalist, this seminar will provide an opportunity for editors-in-chiefs as well as young volunteers to participate in an activity to develop their skills and knowledge on media literacy and freedom of expression. The focus will be on developing the volunteers’ journalistic skills and how to develop new content, with the intention to develop the direct collaboration between the different editions of the webzine in a long term perspective.

The main objectives of the seminar are the following:

  • Strengthen the capacity of young people to create varied and innovative content related to European news through the webzine.
  • Develop volunteer skills in journalistic methods.
  • Create a pool of young people whose objectives will be to strengthen the collaboration between the different language editions.
  • Raise young people’s awareness of the importance of freedom of expression and the threats and attacks against it today in Europe.

The sessions will be facilitated by one junior and one senior trainer with professional trainers with expertise in non-formal education and journalism, with additional invited experts where relevant.

Selection criteria

  • Experience in implementing and facilitating activities using non-formal methodologies.
  • Ability to work in an intercultural environment.
  • Willingness to learn while working in a team led by a senior trainer.
  • Fully vaccinated, or recently recovered and being able to prove this.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Youth journalism
    • Freedom of expression
    • Media literacy
    • Creation of mediatic content

Responsibilities of the trainer

  • Attend online preparatory meetings with the organisers.
  • Prepare session outlines and facilitate one online session prior to the event.
  • Conduct an evaluation with the coordinator during the training and a final evaluation after the event.
  • Prepare a final report 15 days after the meeting at the latest.

Contract conditions

  • The trainer fee for the junior trainer is €200, covering 3 working days (1 day for preparation and follow- up + 2 days for implementation on site).
  • The trainer fee for the senior trainer is €300, covering 3 working days (1 day for preparation and follow- up + 2 days for implementation on site).
  • The trainer fee will be paid after the completion of the service and the delivery of the final report.
  • Online platform access and tools will be provided by the organisers for the online session with the participants.
  • Accommodation and food covered for 2 days in Athens, Greece.
  • Travel reimbursement up to 200 euros
